Musings From A Musical Mind

This song, “Tracks of my Tears” is my pick for favorite song choice from tonight’s American Idol – as sung in near perfection from Adam Lambert.  He is an AMAZING vocalist – and I’m just sorry that I couldn’t put the version that he did tonight on my page for those of you who may have missed it.  We will be seeing much more of him in the future – He has a brilliant career ahead of him and I know we will be hearing him on the radio soon!  I found this version of the great Smoky Robinson song on youtube – and loved it right away – because it is slow and soulful – much like Adam’s version tonight.  I hope you will enjoy the song as much as I did.  The artist that is singing the song is Mary Beth Maziarz.

People say I’m the life of the party
Because I tell a joke or two
Although I might be laughing loud and hearty
Deep inside I’m blue
So take a good look at my face
You’ll see my smile looks out of place
If you look closer, it’s easy to trace
The tracks of my tears..
I need you, need you
Since you left me if you see me with another guy
Seeming like I’m having fun
Although he may be cute
He’s just a substitute
Because you’re the permanent one..
So take a good look at my face
You’ll see my smile looks out of place
If you look closer, it’s easy to trace
The tracks of my tears..
I need you, need you
Outside I’m masquerading
Inside my hope is fading
Just a clown oh yeah
Since you put me down
My smile is my make up
I wear since my break up with you..
So take a good look at my face
You’ll see my smile looks out of place
If you look closer, it’s easy to trace
The tracks of my tears

  1. Yup, Adam absolutely nailed it last night. I’ll really be surprised if he doesn’t win the whole competition…he’s head and shoulders above the rest of the field, maybe even the best vocalist ever on Idol.

  2. So true, JoJo. I don’t know if you watch American Idol or not – but Smoky Robinson was explaining to Adam why he wrote this song – and it is just as you say, communicating who we really are to people around us. He said that someone that has been crying a lot – if you get really close to them – stand really close to their face – you can see the “tracks” where their tears are traced on their face. Most people see us from a safe distance – not up close and personal – most do not know if we are sad, lonely, hurting or crying. Very few people inquire how we really are. This is a song that gets inside – up close and personal and says, “If you really knew me – if you looked close enough – you’d see my tears leaving a permanent track on my face” How many people are close enough to us to see “beyond” the facade of our laughter and smiles? To know our real hurts and pain in our life? That’s why this song is so meaningful.

  3. There’s a good communication lesson in there too, Cindy. I never realized that before, but if we really listen and pay attention we can see that people are communicating who they really are to us. We just have to do some active listening or we might miss that they need us and that we can help.
