Musings From A Musical Mind

Gift Of Silence

There are questions that seem simple

and yet

have no simple answers

seeing death turn to life – and then back to death again

no simple answer

Why God?

how can I make bad things – right again?

no simple answer

How long, Lord?

why do terrible things happen to good people?

no simple answer

Help me understand, Lord

and our list goes on and on

Does this ever end, Lord?

no simple answer

But I do know this:

God is good

He holds tomorrow in His hands

He has the answers for all our questions

Both now and in the past

It is not a mystery to Him

He chooses not to reveal everything to me

And I must trust

that He knows better

and that in time

there will be an answer

for my many questions

that are important to me

His answer will come in time

just truth

speaking loudly

in a decisive voice

clear and unapologetic

to my questioning heart and mind

that was always there

but hidden

undaunted with time

every answer

to every simple question

and I will see clearly

the reasons

for my sacrifice

and many tears

that He has collected

He will make plain

in that day

His love to me

but for now

He remains with me

choosing not to reveal the answer

encouraging me

sustaining me

through rough times

feeling my pain

to all my questions of life

knowing it is best for me

not to know everything

not to be burdened down

with more than I can carry

He has me in mind

and gives only good gifts

He gives what I need

not what I want

He gives His best for me

His love

His presence

His incredible gift

of silence

  1. Yes, I agree; His silence is a Gift to us, in many ways. I have many, (many) questions, but no answers.(yet). But for now, Him taking my hand is often enough.:)

I was reminded Sunday in a sermon to “make my time of sorrow a time of dedication….Psalms 112:6 “That a righteous man will not be shaken…” and Psalms 112:7 “His Heart is secure….” Not to live in a way that I am not secure in God and then the challenge was Phil. 4:8 “To think on these things….” Get my eyes off of dispare…God has it under control, to live in the knowledge that God’s “answer” is on the way and that “His way’s are higher then mine…”

Thanks for your Poem Cindy it is a good reminder that God is in control and that’s a good thing…….

  3. The gift of silence. Very good. I like it. I’ve never really thought of God’s silence as a gift to me. I always seemed to rage against it, like some spoiled toddler in the grocery store aisle whose mother is ignoring the tantrum. (sigh…)

    • When a toddler throws a tantrum in a public place – I am always WISHING for the “gift of silence” – BIG TIME!! Sometimes I feel like you do – like a spoiled child who can’t understand and wants to know WHY??? But I’m glad He doesn’t show or explain everything to me – maybe I couldn’t handle it – and He knows that.

  4. Awesome poem, Cindy!
