Musings From A Musical Mind

Beauty And The Beast

Dedicated to all my junior high students auditioning today for the singing parts in our spring musical: “Beauty and the Beast”.

Good Luck Everyone!!

  1. Okay people, I think I need to spell it out for you bloggers…you’re trying to look for some deeper meaning (ha!). I am facetiously being “politically correct” (PC) with the “not so nice looking woman of mature age” thing. I was really thinking that someone that ugly looking has to be trick or treating; she really can’t be serious about the “red rose gag.” So I would picture the prince in the doorway with a bowl of snickers (which I’m sure was what he was doing!).
I think, in reality, the ugly hag was the beast…she’s definately miffed that he’s not returning her “affections,” so pulls a role reversal on the poor unsuspecting (and slightly arrogant) prince.
And no, I wasn’t frightened by an ungly hag as a child…

    • I don’t feel so bad Greg – Ron didn’t know what it was either – at least he’s not admitting it.

As for the old hag being the “beast” – I think that’s a stretch to the storyline – and I don’t think we’ll be including it in our rendition of the story – I’ll give you a “good try” on it though ☺ And I think you WERE frightened by something as a child – just saying…

  2. I’m with Cindy on this one. In this instance, what does PC mean? We can’t say “ugly old hag”? And, what’s up with this “trick-or-treat” bag thing? That sounds either ominous or kinky…simply beastly, I think. So, what will happen? I don’t think I do know, except in the end the guy always gets the cute girl, even if he is a beast. Isn’t that how it always goes? Just wondering…

    • That made me laugh right out loud, Ron! Wow – you’re right – even the “Beast” get the cute girl at the end – what’s up with that?? I’m not sure about the “trick-or-treat” bag either – it does sound a little “questionable”. Do you notice that Greg is not even defending his position on this? Hmmmm.

  3. So I guess the motto is, when a “not so nice looking” (I’m being PC here) woman of mature age knocks on your door bearing a red rose, kindly accept it, fill her “trick-or-treat” bag with goodies, and send her on her way with a song!
I think we know what will happen if we don’t…

    • What does “PC” mean? I must be tired or something because only silly things are coming to mind – like “popcorn champion” or “Peanutbutter cup” 🙂
