Musings From A Musical Mind

So today is the day you wear green – or you may get pinched – at least that’s how it was when I was growing up and all through school.  Oh the HORROR of forgetting to wear green on that one day – once a year – to show up with not a SPECK of green on – and then open yourself up to the awful and sometimes painful PINCHING!!

This morning  I had no green on – I was in my workout clothes – but my water bottle has a little green on it – so I felt fairly sure that no one would even THINK of pinching me – that and I have a pretty big, strong husband always around me too at the gym – so all things considered – I guess no one was going to DARE to pinch me!

I came home, showered and got dressed and remembered to wear a green t-shirt with my jeans for teaching my students this afternoon.  And every child that came into my home today was appropriately in green as well.  Then one 7th grade boy came for his piano lesson and the green was so faint on his t-shirt – you had to almost have a magnifying glass to see it – and I teased him about it – saying, “Oh Tyler – I bet you got a lot of pinches from girls today!”  And he said “NO WAY – I’m wearing green – see?”

While still teaching him his piano lesson – my silly husband came around the corner and I could see him out of the corner of my eye and noticed he had NO green on!!  So I told him he better get some on or everyone would be pinching him!  To which Tyler starting laughing and I proceeded to tell Greg that Tyler didn’t want ANY girls pinching him – and pointed to his shirt with the almost NO green on it.  Greg without missing a beat said, “When you’re older Tyler, you won’t mind the girls pinching you!”  And Tyler and I burst out laughing!  It was a fun day!

Happy St. Paddy’s Day to everyone!

God Bless

  1. That was interesting, Weatherstone! I have always wondered about the green.

I don’t wear green. Green makes my skin look green and I don’t like the color. I’m a purple girl and I wear purple almost every day.

  2. You know, I was liberated from this later in life when I realized that on St. Patrick’s Day Protestants where Orange!! HA! So, no more Green. Nothing against my Catholics friends. But, I’m neither Irish nor Catholic. So, I where Orange on St. Patty’s day. And, to further complicate things, the original color devoted to St. Patrick was not Green but Blue! Even better, I say! I’ve always been partial to Blue, myself.

    • Protestants wear orange? I’ve never done that in my life on St. Paddy’s day! Where in the world did you get this interesting information? I like blue better than green too – but why did the tradition start with everyone wearing green? I always thought it was because people were Irish – or part Irish – thus the saying “Kiss me – I’m Irish” ☺
