Musings From A Musical Mind

One of my favorite older Michael W. Smith songs – written about a young girl lost in a car accident.  It is reported that she was the younger of two sisters in the car – and the older one survived.  The older sister had a terrible time over the loss until she had a vision where she saw her sister in heaven telling her,”I’m okay”.  It’s a very moving and powerful song – especially if you’ve ever lost anyone close to you.  Enjoy!

Seems like it was only yesterday
She was living here
Yea, she was living here
Lord knows why He’s taken her away
It isn’t very clear, no it isn’t very clear
Into every life a little rain must fall
And losing one you love is like a storm
But storms are passing
I hear Leesha
Singing in heaven tonight
And in between the sadness
I hear Leesha
Telling me that she’s alright
Life goes on even after life
That’s what I believe
Yea, that’s what I believe
Leesha’s gone, but she will still survive
In a memory that I’m keeping here with me
Silencing the voice of mortal tragedy
Listening to whispers of the soul
All is peaceful

  1. I have been searching for this song for a while. I listened to the tape years ago in a tape and it seemed to be in a musical play. Is that the same as the CD – I never listened to the CD and would like to buy it. Does someone know about it? Please let me know.

I was remembering my daughter who is with the Lord now, thinking that she would have been 2yrs and 4months now, and I thought of this song and could not rest till I got it.

    • I’m not sure what album it was on – but one of the earlier ones for sure. I found it on youtube. So sorry about your loss. Try a google search for it – I’m sure it will be there.

  2. I had never heard of this song before. I love the concept.

  3. Very nice Cindy. I changed the name to my son’s name. He is peaceful and he did live here and still does and always will in my heart. I try to not listen to sad songs because it never fails, I start to cry and miss my son so much more. But I stayed here and listened to the song and thank you. I hear Val all the time.
    Have a great week.

    • Thanks for sharing this Gloria – I know that had to be tough. I am so glad the song spoke to you – it’s always felt like a song of great hope and comfort – knowing that in heaven they truly are okay and we will see them again! What a wonderful thought! Can’t wait!

  4. Very moving, Cindy. You may rember Kip Johns who used to be a personality on Spirit 105.3 (KCMS back then). He lost his wife and 2 of his 3 children (a 7 year old son and his 20 month old daughter) back in June of 2002–you can see an an article at Kip was a regular personality on KCMS for many many years (“Kip in the Morning”).

I pursued this friendship to some degree back in the day. I was even able to meet his wife. Recently I reconnected with him on Facebook. I was able to encourage him through an e-mail. It is amazing how well he is doing. God is so good. We have so much to be thankful for. When we look at all of the issues that we have to deal with in life, it pales in comparison to what others have to deal with. We must keep each other in prayer as we never know what obstacle or challenge that we will face in the future.

    • This is so true Scott. It seems to put into perspective our tiny little problems and situations in light of what others go through. It seems some people and some families are ‘born to sorrow’ – and I’ve know several that fall into this category. I always want to keep my heart right and be compassionate because we do not know what we may have to face some day.
