Musings From A Musical Mind

I was introduced to this song yesterday by one of my voice students, Taylor Smith.  Laura Story is the writer and singer in this video – and she reminds me very much of  the way Cindy Morgan writes and expresses herself in her lyrics.

I found the story behind this song here.  She wrote this song because early in her marriage her husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor.  And since then – together they have had quite a journey of healing and understanding of God’s grace and purpose through the pain.

I was encouraged by what she had to say about challenges and set-backs.  Sometimes the answer in our life in “No” – and sometimes God leaves us broken so His will can be accomplished in us.  Powerful words.

How do you deal with set-backs?

Can you see the “Blessings” through the pain in your own life?

When was the last time God said “No” to you – and left you broken to accomplish something through you?

Enjoy and God Bless

  1. Well, so far He has said no to making my hair grow back. I try to pray away the baldness but it isn’t working. I kid, I kid. Our 12 week old twins have hernias. They are both scheduled for surgery on July 25. My prayer all along is that God would heal them. I believe He can but so far He has not. I know that God can use doctors but I’d love to see a miracle of Biblical proportions.

  2. The Father’s “No” is the biggest blessing there is…wish I always saw it that way!

  3. What I have difficulty with is trying to “figure out” if God is saying no, or simply, not now – wait.

In the immediacy (is that a word?) of the “no”, I usually can’t handle not getting a “yes”, but often times after months or years…when I can look back at the situation with a clear mind, etc., I have always been thankful to have received a “no” answer.

  4. Great song…sometimes His “no” can be a “yes” for what’s best in and through us. Reminds me of 2 Corinthians 1:20 – the promises of God are “yes” in Christ.

  5. I’ve had MANY times in my almost 50yrs on this planet where God said no. I can handle the financial issues fairly well and the times when someone destroys a relationship we’ve shared. I can even now accept that my children may not live anywhere near me, but the health issues that are piling up on me are getting to the point where it gets harder to see the blessings in the pain.

    • Physical pain and discomfort can be the most difficult – a close second with emotional pain. And seeing the lesson and testimony in it is sometimes something we can’t see until much later.

  6. I’ve contemplated leaving the church where I’m serving today. However, God said no and I’m still serving where I am today.

    • I hear you Moe. There have been many times when we have wanted to leave and God said “No” – and then there was a time when God said “Go” and no one liked or supported our decision because they were thinking with their heads – and not seeing what God was telling us to do. Spiritual reasons make no sense to others.
