Musings From A Musical Mind

Are You Forgettable?

Singer Katherine McPhee and pianist Lang Lang ...

I have a confession to make. A guilty pleasure if you will.

I watch American Idol. Every season since season 3.  I didn’t really get into before that – but I do remember every season since Fantasia.

Over the years I have seen some extraordinary talent emerge from that program – among those really great – Kris Allen,  Chris Daughtry, David Cook and Carrie Underwood – the likes of which we would never have heard about otherwise.  All of them have made songs famous – and we can name at least one that is our favorite from each artist.

A few years back Katherine McPhee was a runner-up on the show – and other than “Over the Rainbow” – I was not completely taken with her voice.  I thought she tried too hard to make her voice do all the runs and vocal acrobatics that some should not do.  I thought she was forgettable, until…

A couple of years later I heard this song on the radio.  “Ordinary World”.  It was amazing – both music and lyrics.  I found it and put it on a playlist for my car and computer – and have never grown tired of hearing it when it comes up in the rotation.  I think you will like it too.

Forgettable?  I think not.

Who is someone who has surprised you – when you thought they were forgettable?

Enjoy and God Bless

  1. I saw parts of the finale of the first season of American Idol and thought, “what is this?” My wife and I started watching in season 2 and we’ve watched most episodes since. I’ve never heard this song, but it’s beautiful. Thanks Cindy!

  2. Nice song! I don’t watch American Idol. Oh, I’ve caught a performance or two here or there, but that’s about it. I’m usually way too busy to watch any television. As to being forgettable, I am to everyone who lives here until they want something. HAH! Like JoJo, I try not to think of anyone as forgettable, but I’m sure I forget people. I forget lots of things, but I try really hard to remember people. After all, life is about people and NOT things.

    • I’m way to busy to watch regular live TV – I record everything I’m interested on my DVR – I LOVE my DVR 🙂 I hate sitting through commercials.

  3. I must be having trouble with my computer. I’ve tried to play this several times and it won’t play! I’ve never heard of her, but then I’ve never watched American Idol. I’m not big on TV, most of it turns my stomach. I do appreciate talent though, I’ll keep an ear out for her.

    • I love music programs – and American Idol and now The Voice are my new favorites 🙂 The Sing-Off is very good too – all sorts of acapella groups competing – really GREAT TALENT!

  4. I don’t think anyone is forgettable, even though my mind is often unable to recall the things I should be able to remember. So…maybe I’m forgettable.
