41 days until Christmas

48 days until 2012

What do these days really mean for you?  Does it scare you to hear the actual time left to shop and prepare?  Do you have a tradition every holiday?  Are they just another day to you – or do you celebrate in style?  Do you have a favorite tradition or memory?

Thanksgiving is my favorite time – usually spent with family and friends over the years in our home – and also wonderful because of the food and the leftovers!  However this year we are going to our daughter’s home to help them celebrate their first Thanksgiving in their new home.

Christmas Eve we always spend with our kids going to a movie and then eating and opening gifts in the evening with them.  This year Christmas Day will have to be spent in our home due to our new puppy.

We usually don’t celebrate the new year with any special dinner or event – but I know many who do.  In years gone by – New Year’s Eve was a very special all-night event usually spent with our church youth group.  Now we’re just happy to go to bed – we are old and boring now 🙂

I’d love to hear your story and what you will be up to this year – in the holiday season.

God Bless

  1. Christmas is my favorite day of the year!:) It always gives me a feeling of hope, of new and exciting things to come. I just love, love the whole thing: The tree, the decorations, the lights, the colorful presents underneath it.
And this year it will be extra special as our family has extended and there will be an excited 11 year old too.

  2. Unfortunately, I’m scroogy when it comes to Christmas. NYC is a mess, people become rude, pushy, inpatient, and it should be a time of reflection, love, sacrifice. It just rubs me the wrong way.

However, I do love to spend time with the family, kids and eating and drinking eggnog while dancing to Justin Bieber’s Christmas album. What? Don’t judge me!!!!

    • Well I LOVE eggnog and I don’t even mind me a little Justin Bieber (in moderation) but New York is something I’d LOVE to see and experience someday – maybe not at Christmas – but just sometime – hey – can I call you if we ever come to the East Coast?

  3. Thanksgiving is one of the only times a year I get to see my dd so it’s pretty special. My mom hosts Thanksgiving and relatives come from all over to spend a few days. Christmas is usually spent just with my dh and kids. My folks are Atheists so we don’t “celebrate” the same way. They do the presents, but not even the decorating anymore and certainly not celebrating Christ’s birth. We have our own traditions during CHRISTmas. New Year’s really isn’t a big deal around here. Never has been. I have always been a morning person so staying up late is especially hard and not something I’d LIKE to do. Also, I never really understood making much of the calendar turning one day to a new year. The year isn’t a person it’s just time. I’d rather celebrate the God who gave it to me.

    • We’ve never been big into New Year’s either – Love Thanksgiving the best because of the food! Christmas before of the tree, the lights and smells – family and being together.

  4. I hope you have a fun Thanksgiving. It’s so nice to sit around the table together and just relax together, isn’t it? I love the coziness and meaningfulness of both Thanksgiving and Christmas and the refreshment of the new year.
