The last few days our Bichon Frise puppy has exhibited some strange symptoms causing us concern. Yesterday we finally took her to get checked by our Vet. They kept her all day in an attempt to get a urine sample to determine if her symptoms were a result of a bladder or urinary tract infection. She had a lot of trouble giving them a little sample and they even had to give her a pack of water put under her skin on her back to help. Finally at almost the end of the day – she peed!
We have noticed that Daisy does not like to drink water. She does not seem thirsty most of the time. We have tried several different types of bowls, ceramic, plastic and finally stainless steel – we were told this is by far the best choice for them. She is afraid of stainless steel. We don’t know why. Maybe it’s because she can see her refection? Maybe it’s because her tag from her collar makes a clanging sound? It’s a mystery.
Then we adopt Dexter – a 6 month old male Shih-Poo. Dexter is a true Alpha male and will take over any and all food, toys and water bowls. If Daisy was freaked out about drinking water before – she REALLY is now!
So finding out that our pup is suffering from a severe dehydration problem and was suggested that we put many water bowls around the house – we are doing just that – adding a third to Greg’s office upstairs where she likes to hangout and sleep during the day.
I know that I myself do not drink enough water. After reading the following article posted below – I found that lack of water can be the cause for many of our ailments including migraines! I remember hearing years ago, “Have a headache? Drink a glass of water”. I don’t always do it. I’m afraid I don’t feel very thirsty and usually have to force myself to drink. I don’t have trouble with tea or coffee – but plain water is difficult for me. However I have disciplined myself to only drink water when going out to eat and sip on that instead of soda or other drinks. Because it’s better for me – and let’s face it – it’s cheaper too!
I need to drink more water. I need to develop a thirst. Water. Life giving water. Sounds like something I’ve heard several times over many years – Jesus referring to himself as Living Water. Isn’t it interesting that He would refer to Himself as something so basic – and yet in its simplicity has the power to give life? It’s a great physical and spiritual lesson. Drinking more water will not only help us to live in this physical body but feed and nourish our spiritual selves as well!
Help me Lord to drink your water and take this lesson learning to develop a thirst for things that have to do with you as I seek your face and listen to your voice.
