Will You Still Love Me?

I LOVE 70’s music and bands. Chicago is one of my very favorite bands with their rich vocal and instrumental harmonies. However, this is a band that went well into the 80’s too and after the departure of Peter Cetera they still had many number one hits – like this one featuring new lead vocalist and bass player, Jason Scheff. I heard this on the radio the other morning and had to jot it down. I also love it because it came out in 1987 some 24 years ago – the same year that my daughter was born. I found this music video and wanted to share it with you – great song – great memories.

When was the last time you heard a song on the radio that really took you back?

Enjoy and God Bless

Take me as I am
Put your hand in mine
Now and forever
Darling here I stand
Stand before you now
Deep inside I always knew

It was you
You and me
Two hearts drawn together
Bound by destiny

It was you
And you for me
Every road leads to your door
Every step I take
Forever more

Just say you’ll love me for the rest of your life
I gotta lot of love and I don’t want to let go
Will you still love me for the rest of my life?
’cause I can’t go on
No, I can’t go on
I can’t go on
If I’m on my own

Take me as I am
Put your heart in mine
Stay with me forever
‘Cause I am just a man
Who never understood
I never had a thing to prove

‘Till there was you
You and me
Then it all came clear so suddenly
How close to you that I wanna be

Just say you’ll love me for the rest of your life
I gotta lot of love and I don’t want to let go
Will you still love me for the rest of my life?
‘Cause I can’t go on
No, I can’t go on
I can’t go on
If I’m on my own

Do you believe a love could run so stong?
Do you believe a love could pass you by?
There was no special one for me
I was the lovely one, you see
But then my heart lost all control
Now you’re all that I know

Just say you’ll love me for the rest of your life
I gotta lot of love and I don’t want to let go
Will you still love me for the rest of my life?
‘Cause I can’t go on (I can’t go on)
No, I can’t go on
I can’t go on
If I’m on my own

I can’t go on (I can’t go on)
No, I can’t go on

‘Cause I can’t go on (Will you still love me?)
No, I can’t go on (Just say you love me)
Can’t go on
Without somebody I can call my own

‘Cause I can’t go on (Will you still love me?)
No, I can’t go on (Just say you love me)
(Stay around) Can’t go on

‘Cause I can’t go on (Will you still love me?)
No, I can’t go on (Just say you love me)
Can’t go on
If you could say your love

‘Cause I can’t go on (Will you still love me?)
No, I can’t go on (Just say you love me)
(Stay around) Can’t go on
You’ll never be alone

There Is Love

Make Your Move (Captain & Tennille album)

Image via Wikipedia

When I was in the 7th grade the song, “Love will keep us together” was at the top of the charts.  It was by the new singing duo “The Captain and Tennille” composed of married couple Daryl Dragon and Toni Tennille.  This unique duo made several hits records and a Grammy in 1975 for the song above.

I can remember like it was yesterday, hearing this song over and over on the radio – and seeing them perform it on TV too.  I did “human video” to this song – long before that was popular – and would entertain my family and friends every time the song came on the radio.

When I was in high school – they produced an album that had Noel Paul Stookey‘s famous song on it, “The Wedding Song – There is Love”.  And although I LOVE the original – as heard on the TV show, “The Wonder Years” – I have to admit that there is no better version – or cover that compares to the one that Captain and Tennille did back in the 70’s.

It is a tribute to marriage – the commitment and promise.  And it is wonderful to see such a long marriage in a celebrity couple – knowing they are still together after all these years.

I found this video and thought it was really beautifully put together with pictures of Daryl and Toni over the many years together.

Enjoy and God Bless!

He is now to be among you at the calling of your hearts
Rest assured this troubadour is acting on His part.
The union of your spirits, here, has caused Him to remain
For whenever two or more of you are gathered in His name
There is Love,
there is Love.

Well a man shall leave his mother and a woman leave her home
They shall travel on to where the two shall be as one.
As it was in the beginning is now and til the end
Woman draws her life from man and gives it back again.
And there is Love,
there is Love.

Well then what’s to be the reason for becoming man and wife?
Is it love that brings you here or love that brings you life?
For if loving is the answer, then who’s the giving for?
Do you believe in something that you’ve never seen before?
Oh there is Love,
there is Love.

Oh the marriage of your spirits here has caused Him to remain
For whenever two or more of you are gathered in His name
There is Love,
there is Love.

Got To Begin Again

Several weeks ago I watched a biography program on the life of Billy Joel.  It was interesting – many things I did not know about his life and journey that had led him to write such amazing songs.  Every song has a story – each is a chapter of his life.  I think this is why it is so easy to relate to them.  His lyrics are universal and have layers of meaning for him and everyone else who listens.

I don’t remember where I was when I first heard this song, but I was pretty young.  This song was on Billy’s first solo album “Cold Spring Harbor” written in 1971.  This album was his first after a suicide attempt due to depression from a broken relationship.  The lyrics are of a broken man – rising up to find hope and life again.

I know I can relate to lyrics like this.  No, I’ve never been depressed to the point of wanting to end my life – but I have been sad and felt hopeless at times.  I think we all have.  And it is only because of the love of Christ in me – that I have been able to gain my life back.  He has helped me on more than one occasion to see things clearly and with new purpose and understanding.  I can say each new morning, as I leave yesterday behind with all its hurt and disappointments – “I’ve got to begin again”

When was the last time you felt that God helped you to “begin again”?

God Bless

Well so here I am at the end of the road
Where do I go from here?
I always figured it would be like this
Still nothing seems to be quite clear

All the words have been spoken and the prophecy fulfilled
But I just can’t decide where to go
Yes, it’s been quite a day and I should go to sleep
But tomorrow I will wake up and I’ll know

That I’ve got to begin again
Though I don’t know how to start
Yes, I’ve got to begin again
And it’s hard

Well it’s been quite a while since I lifted my head
And I’m sure the light will hurt my eyes
I see the way that I´ve been spendin’ my days
And reality has caught me by surprise

I was dreamin’ of tomorrow so I sacrificed today
And it sure was a grand waste of time
And despite all the truth that’s been thrown in my face
I just can’t get you out of my mind

That I’ve got to begin again
Though I don’t know how start
Yes, I’ve got to begin again
And it’s hard

A Feeling Of Anticipation

"Anticipation" by American illustrat...

Image via Wikipedia

I have not been able to shake a feeling the last couple of days.  And feelings being what they are – “feelings” – I have tried to push it down and ignore it.

Last night it had an ever-growing intensity – I was not feeling well either so that might have contributed to this – uh – feeling – but I’m not sure.  My stomach was jumpy and I could actually feel anticipation.

There have only been a couple of times that I have felt like this.  It’s the feeling that I get when somebody is about to jump out at me – saying “BOO” – or when I am looking at some daunting task before me – and need to “jump in” or “jump off” as it were.   The same feeling in my stomach – in preparation for it to lurch and dance around.

But since I have no reason to feel this way – and certainly not last night – it’s been a little unnerving.  Life is pretty calm here these days.  Oh like everyone else – I have some unresolved issues with a friend and have not been able to put that to right – as of yet – and there are some other issues – but nothing that has not been there before.  It is nothing new in my world.  Things are calm – if not totally resolved or finished.  And yet...I feel it.  Ever building.  Ever present.  Anticipation.

In my spirit I can feel something – I’m just not sure what it is.  But there is a whisper of hope – a whisper of anticipation with that hope.  And although it is scary – the dark unknown – it makes me smile.

Do you suppose that things are about to change – for the better in issues that I have had no control over?  Things that I was sure were hopeless and unresolvable?  Or are “feelings” just feelings.  Does God whisper to you in your spirit – something you just can’t shake?

When was the last time you had a “feeling” you couldn’t shake?  A feeling of anticipation?  Did you ever find out the reason for it, later?

One of my favorite Carly Simon songs is called “Anticipation” – here it is for you to listen to – Enjoy and God Bless!

Guest Feature on “The Art Of Eloquence” Blog

I have the privilege today of being featured on my good friend and blogging buddy, JoJo on her  blog called: The Art Of Eloquence.  I have known JoJo for almost 3 years online, followed her facebook page and blog and found her to not only be an inspiring and trained communicator – but also a special friend as well.  Check out her blog – you will be blessed!  She asked me a few weeks ago if she could feature me and I was honored to be a part of her blog – you will find the interview here.

Most of you know that I love 70’s music – so here’s a blast from the past from the group “Argent”.  The year it was released – 1972.  I was 11 years old.  Heard this for the first time in many years on the program “Men of a Certain Age” the other night and just had to find it and play it for you.  Brings back a lot of memories for me.  Hope you enjoy!

God Bless

And if it’s bad

Don’t let it get you down, you can take it

And if it hurts

Don’t let them see you cry, you can take it

Hold your head up, hold your head up

Hold your head up, hold your head high

And if they stare

Just let them burn their eyes on you moving

And if they shout

Don’t let them change a thing what you’re doing

Hold your head up, hold your head up

Hold your head up, hold your head high

Long Train Running (Without Love)

I heard this on my car radio yesterday.  I have it tuned to one of a couple of stations devoted to the “oldies” or “hits of all time” – I can’t remember which.  Anyway, this song came on and I remember loving it – and all the Doobie Brothers songs of the 70’s.  You will be seeing a lot more of these as I hear them.  These are the sounds of my youth – and in some ways I do miss these groups – even though I do like a lot of the music of today.  But there in nothing like what reminds me of “back in the day”.   With this song I’m driving down the road and I’m about 16.  Sweet memories.

Enjoy and God Bless

Down around the corner, half a mile from here
See those long trains running, and you watch them disappear
Without love, where would you be now
Without love

You know I saw Miss Lucy down along the tracks
She lost her home and her family and she won’t be coming back
Without love, where would you be right now
Without love

Well there’s the Illinois Central
And the Southern Central freight
You got to keep on pushing mama
I know they’re running late
Without love, where would you be now na na now
Without love

Well there’s the Illinois Central
And the Southern Central freight
You got to keep on pushing mama
You know they’re running late
Without love, where would you be now
Without love

Well distance keep on turning
and the wheels go round and round
and the steel reels are cooling hard
and the mountain ain’t going down
Without love, where would you be right now
Without
Where would you be now

Mmm..ooh you got to get the baby thing
I want to move it down
I want to move it down
Baby baby baby babe oh won’t you move it down
There’s a big train running
With the train I’m moving on
I got to keep on moving, keep on moving

London Bridge

If you were a child of the 60’s and 70’s like I was – then you will remember the group “Bread”.  David Gates had a voice like no other – and many have tried to copy him over the years – but it was a unique quality that few have.  This song was not a huge hit – but I like it anyway – great lyrics – great band.  Enjoy!

I know the times the times are hard to bear
It’s hard to find someone to really care
But before I went down and out
Here’s what I used to think about, think about:
London Bridge was always fallin’ down,
But there it stood within the heart of town
Reminding everyone of life behind and life to come
The changes taking place are everywhere
The centuries past have nothing to compare
Where they stand, where they trip and fall
Watch the writing on the wall, on the wall
London Bridge is fallin’ down at last,
And so another memory of the past
Has fell beneath the blade, but soon the dead may be repaid
I know things just can’t evolve for all eternity
The thoughts will leave, will never die, and now so you can see
London Bridge is finally fallin’ down,
It packed it up and shipped it outta town
And though the horror’s gone, the memory will linger on
London Bridge is finally fallin’ down,
It used to stand within the heart of town
Reminding everyone of life behind and life to come
London Bridge is finally fallin’ down…..
