Cupid Knew

Scan of a Valentine greeting card dated 1909.

I posted this song last year and thought since it’s Valentine’s Day, I would post it again for those that didn’t get to hear it.

I wrote this song for my boyfriend, Greg Holman 31 Valentine’s Days ago. ¬†We were engaged the following month and were married in September of that same year.

It’s pretty sappy, but I was only 19 at the time – so you need to cut me a little slack ūüôā

It was the best I could do on short notice – I wanted a special unique gift for a pretty special and unique guy – so hear it is again. ¬†Gotta love the quality of the old cassette tapes ūüôā

Enjoy – and have a very Happy Valentine’s Day with those you love.

God Bless

Welcome Home

Beloved, Lift Your Head

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.  Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,  who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.  For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.

2 Corinthians 1:2-5

Lately there has been much sadness in our world.  Many losses, hurts and pain.  But when we concentrate on a scripture such as the one above that has so much comfort and hope Рwe are encouraged and given new strength to go on.

When things happen unexpectedly, such as a sudden death in someone young Рit always catches us off guard Рbut God is never caught off guard.  He knows the total number of our days.  And He promises to be there to walk through any difficult season that we may have to face here on earth.

When we lose someone Рwe grieve.  But we grieve for ourselvesnot for them.  It is a necessary process we must all walk through.

Some of the comfort we receive is in knowing that they are safely home Рin the arms of Jesus.  Other comfort is from family and friends Рwho offer support and encouragement to go on.

There is no right or wrong way to grieve.  Instead we should say:

When we grieve.

Because we do.  Because we will.  And God knows this.

And because there are no answers to the questions – we must trust that He is still working behind the scenes, far beyond what we can understand – to bring about His purpose and plan to save a lost and dying world – even if it means that we lose something in the process.

For them Рto die is really gain.  And when we die Рthe same is true for us.  As Christ followers we have that incredible hope.

The following video is the story behind the song by Michael W. Smith, “Welcome Home” – I know that the testimony of the parents who lost their college age son – will encourage you today. ¬†And below this video – is the actual song with lyrics.

If you are grieving today, or know someone who is – I encourage you to watch both of these videos today.

God Bless

[VERSE 1]
I can’t believe that I’m here
Having to say goodbye.
And I can barely see you through
These tears I cry.
I close my eyes.

[CHORUS]
I can hear the sound
As angels gather ’round
Saying this is where you belong
Welcome Home!

[VERSE 2]
There are the days that my heart aches
wishing you were here.
But I know where you are
The hurt and the pain disappear.
There’s no more tears.

Chorus

Welcome Home!

Chorus

What a lovely sound
Angels all around
Saying this is where you belong
Welcome Home!
Welcome Home!
Welcome Home!

Say Once More

Love for Arts

Image via Wikipedia

Need a little love today?  This song is a great reminder.  As I creep closer and closer to my 30th wedding anniversary to Greg РI find myself hearing songs of love and closeness that remind me of our long love affair.  This Amy Grant song beautifully expresses love for another human being, our love for God  Р and His for us.

Dedicated to all you lovers out there!

Enjoy and God Bless!

Let me say once more that I love you,
Let me say one time, maybe two,
That I love the way that you love me,
And I wish I knew more of you.

Let me say once more that I love you,
Let me say one time, maybe two,
That I love the way that you love me,
And I wish I knew more of you.

Tell me that time can’t erase
This look of love on your face.

Let me say once more that I need you,
One more time or just maybe two.
Oh, my life will always be richer
For the time I’ve spent here with you.

Let me say once more that I love you,
Let me say one time, maybe two,
That I love the way that you love me,
And I wish I knew more of you.

Tell me that time won’t erase
The way that my heart sees your face.

I call your name,
You look my way,
It’s clear you trust each word I say.
When life is long and problems come,
You’ll always be my only one.
So now we’re standing face to face,
And with one look my eyes embrace me.
Squeeze away each haunting fear,
And say the words I long to hear.

Tell me that time won’t erase
This look of love.

Ohhhh….

Let me say once more.
I love you.
I do, I do, I do, I do, I do.

Let me say once more that I love you,
Let me say one time, maybe two,
That I love the way that you love me,
And I wish I knew more of you.

Let me say once more that I love you,
One more time or just maybe two,
That I love the way that you love me,
And I want to know more of you.

(I call your name,
You look my way, I love you.
It’s clear you trust each word I say. I do….
When life is long and problems come,
You’ll always be my only one.
So now we’re standing face to face, oh, I need you.
And with one look my eyes embrace me. I want you.
Squeeze away each haunting fear, more and more and more.
And say the words I long to hear.)

(I call your name, let me say once more
You look my way, that I love you,
It’s clear you trust each word I say. let me say one time, maybe two,
When life is long and problems come, that I love the way that you love me,
You’ll always be my only one. and I wish I knew more of you.
So now we’re standing face to face, let me say once more that I love you,
And with one look my eyes embrace me. let me say one time, maybe two,
Squeeze away each haunting fear, that I love the way that you love me,
And say the words I long to hear.) and I wish I knew more of you.

This is for my daughter – the #1 song on the charts for the year she was born – 1987.

Where were you when you first heard this song?  Are you old enough to remember?

Enjoy and God Bless!

Feels Like Home – sung by Linda Ronstadt – remember her?

Marriage

Growing up in the 70’s (at least my junior high and high school years) I couldn’t turn on the radio without hearing Linda Ronstadt at least once a day. ¬†Who could forget the song she made famous, “You’re no good“? ¬†She had a very unique voice and it was easy to recognize within the first few measures of a song.

What you may not know is that Linda was not just good at belting out the pop hits in the 70’s but later went on to do several Jazz albums and one from ¬†the 40’s. ¬†One of my music professors once told me that her very favorite artist in that 40’s genre – was Linda Ronstadt – a good 5 years past the time I had listened to her in high school. ¬†There probably isn’t anything that this artist can’t sing – but I must say that I was pleasantly surprised to stumble on this great song written by Randy Newman called “Feels like home”. ¬†Many have tried to copy it since she sang it – but she really is the owner – plain and simple. ¬†And although I really loved it when hearing other covers – it truly is best by Linda. ¬†Take a listen and see if you don’t agree.

I’m dedicating this to my dear husband of almost 30 years – Greg. ¬†He is truly my best friend and partner – he accepts me just as I am – with my many shortcomings and flaws and shows tireless love and devotion to me – making me feel like I was pretty smart to have found and married him – all those years ago. ¬†It’s wonderful to find a deep love and friendship with your partner that only grows richer over time. ¬†I wish the same for you and yours.

God Bless

There’s something in your eyes
Makes me wanna lose my self,
Makes me wanna lose myself in your arms,
There’s something in your voice
That makes my heart beat fast
Hope this feeling lasts
For the rest of my life

If you knew how lonely
My life has been
And how long I’ve been so alone
And if you knew how I wanted someone to come along
And change my life the way you’ve done

It feels like home to me
It feels like home to me
It feels like I’m all the way back where I come from
It feels like home to me
It feels like home to me
It feels like I’m all the way back where I belong

A window breaks down on lumdard street
And a siren wails in the night
But I’m all right cuz I have you here with me,
And I can almost see through the dark there is light

Well if you knew how much this moment means to me
And how long I’ve waited for your touch
And if you knew how happy you are making me
I never thought that I’d love anyone so much

It feels like home to me
It feels like home to me
It feels like I’m all the way back where I come from
It feels like home to me
It feels like home to me
It feels like I’m all the way back where I belong

It feels like I’m all the way back where I belong.

There Is Love

Our niece Emily got married today.¬† And so her journey begins…A journey of love.

This song is in dedication to Emily and Aaron – and it is my favorite version of the Noel Paul Stookey song “Wedding Song – There is Love” arranged and sung by Captain and Tennille.

Enjoy and God Bless

Drive

This next song is for my friend Carla Ives – who the other day when I posted a song by “The Cars” – openly admitted that she loved this group – like me and that “Drive” was among her favorite songs.¬† Thanks Carla – great suggestion!

who’s gonna tell you when
it’s too late
who’s gonna tell you things
aren’t so great
you can’t go on
thinking nothing’s wrong
who’s gonna drive you home tonight

who’s gonna pick you up
when you fall
who’s gonna hang it up
when you call
who’s gonna pay attention
to your dreams
who’s gonna plug their ears
when you scream

you can’t go on
thinking nothing’s wrong
who’s gonna drive you home tonight

who’s gonna hold you down
when you shake
who’s gonna come around
when you break

Beautiful Day

Yesterday I was told that I needed some U2 in my blog – so I will happily oblige – This is for you Arthur ūüôā

The heart is a bloom
Shoots up through the stony ground
There’s no room
No space to rent in this town

You’re out of luck
And the reason that you had to care
The traffic is stuck
And you’re not moving anywhere

You thought you’d found a friend
To take you out of this place
Someone you could lend a hand
In return for grace

It’s a beautiful day
Sky falls, you feel like
It’s a beautiful day
Don’t let it get away

You’re on the road
But you’ve got no destination
You’re in the mud
In the maze of her imagination

You love this town
Even if that doesn’t ring true
You’ve been all over
And it’s been all over you

It’s a beautiful day
Don’t let it get away
It’s a beautiful day

Touch me
Take me to that other place
Teach me
I know I’m not a hopeless case

See the world in green and blue
See China right in front of you
See the canyons broken by cloud
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out
See the Bedouin fires at night
See the oil fields at first light
And see the bird with a leaf in her mouth
After the flood all the colors came out

It was a beautiful day
Don’t let it get away
Beautiful day

Touch me
Take me to that other place
Reach me
I know I’m not a hopeless case

What you don’t have you don’t need it now
What you don’t know you can feel it somehow
What you don’t have you don’t need it now
Don’t need it now
Was a beautiful day

Cupid Knew

30 years ago on this very day, February 14, 1981 – I sang a song for Greg that I had written.¬† I was 19 years old – and by then considered myself somewhat of a songwriter – having written several songs – but none of them ever published – something I didn’t think to do at the time – because the songs were for me.¬† And this song was rather personal and just something for Greg on that special day – we were engaged a month later and married in September of the same year.

Please excuse the recording Рit was on an old cassette and then a few years ago I converted it to a CD to help preserve it Рbut in any event Рhere it is!  It was my last attempt at songwriting  until a few years ago when I wrote a song for a special friend.

And just so you know – life isn’t without its challenges and we’ve faced a few of our own in recent years – but we are still together and it was our deep friendship that kept us together even in rough times that can rock a marriage to its core.

And so I dedicate this song once again to my wonderful husband and friend, Greg ‚ô•

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Just A Dream

I’ve been having some crazy dreams lately – you know the ones I mean – where you see people from your past that you haven’t seen in years – and suddenly there they are right in front of you – like they never went away.¬† Sometimes it’s hard to tell reality from fantasy – the real from the unreal – when you’re dreaming.¬† The things that we know to be true when we are awake – somehow slip away during ‘another life’ in our dream world.¬† I would like to make sense of it – and have it explained – but there doesn’t seem to be a reason.¬† I can see somebody that I haven’t thought of in 30 years and suddenly they are a very normal part of my dream world – like they never left – and yet I can have a traumatic situation that is relatively fresh – and never dream about that person or event at all.

It is nice to wake up and find that a troubling dream Рis in fact Рjust a dream. However РI would be lying if I said that I would never want to remain in a dream Рwhere my mind has conjured up an old friend Рand we are conversing and the problem and situation which left us separated by silence and hurt feelings in the real world Рdoes not exist in a dream Рand things are solved and dealt with face to face.  It is then Рthat I hate to wake up and realize that could never happen Рit was just a dream.

Having said that – I found this wonderful song from Michael W. Smith – where he sums up those feelings that we have for people – in or out of a dream.

Dedicated to my all the wonderful people in my life – who have remained – this is for you…
