Grey Seal

My blogging and google+ buddies got me started on Spotify – a unique music software program that allows you to build a music library. I have been searching when I have a few minutes – for music from my past – things I have forgotten about. Back in the day I loved Elton John – and yesterday while searching through every song he ever recorded – stumbled on this one.  I haven’t heard it in 35 years.  Hope it brings back as many memories for you as it did for me 🙂

What is your most memorable music group from the past? Have you been able to dig up some of their songs lately with things like Spotify or YouTube?  I’d love to hear some of your favorites!

God Bless

Why’s it never light on my lawn
Why does it rain and never say good-day to the new-born
On the big screen they showed us a sun
But not as bright in life as the real one
It’s never quite the same as the real one
chorus
And tell me grey seal
How does it feel to be so wise
To see through eyes
That only see what’s real
Tell me grey seal

I never learned why meteors were formed
I only farmed in schools that were so worn and torn
If anyone can cry then so can I
I read books and draw life from the eye
All my life is drawings from the eye

[repeat chorus]

Your mission bells were wrought by ancient men
The roots were formed by twisted roots
Your roots were twisted then
I was re-born before all life could die
The Phoenix bird will leave this world to fly
If the Phoenix bird can fly then so can I

I Wish…

I wish…things were different

I wish…my friend didn’t have to deal with cancer AGAIN.

I wish…that a simple “I’m sorry” took care of everything

I wish…people would quit being so stubborn

I wish…there was no “victim mentality”

I wish…everyone would forgive

I wish…I could go back in time with what I know now and fix something

I wish I had my friend back

I wish everyone could get it

I wish everyone was as happy as I am

I wish

I wish

I wish

I would say these lyrics by Cindy Morgan sum up EVERYTHING I’ve been feeling.  This artist GETS IT.  I couldn’t have said it better myself.  Thanks, Cindy.

Take a listen – God Bless.

Wish I didn’t feel so helpless

Wish I didn’t act so selfish

Wish I didn’t wring my hands night and day

My hair was a little bit smoother

My jeans fit a little bit looser

And I always knew the right things to say

I wish I wouldn’t hide what’s been going on inside

And I wish you wouldn’t get scared and run away

Wish I was doin’ better with all the things that matter

I guess I got some learnin’ to do

Wish everyone had someone to  hold them and to love them

The way I’m always gonna love you

I wish wishes came true

I wish there was a cure for cancer

Wish somebody had an answer

And all God’s children never got hurt

I wish Eve never bit that apple

Young men never went to battle

And I didn’t get so mad at the world

I wish I was more like Jesus and could pickup all the pieces

And make a better life for my baby girls

Wish I was doin’ better with all the things that matter

I guess I got some learnin’ to do

Wish everyone had someone to  hold them and to love them

The way I’m always gonna love you

I wish wishes came true

And for everything I’m wishin’ I know someone’s up there listenin’

So I’ll say my prayers when I go to bed

Wish I was doin’ better with all the things that matter

I guess I got some learnin’ to do

Oh I wish everyone had someone to hold them and to  love them

The way I’m always gonna love you

I wish wishes came true

Sometimes wishes come true

I wish, I wish

How You Live (Turn Up The Music)

The Best So Far (Cindy Morgan album)

Image via Wikipedia

This wonderful song written by the great Cindy Morgan is fast becoming one of my favorites.  Recorded a couple of years ago by the group “Point of Grace” it needs to be noted that Cindy’s original lyrics were slightly “edgier” for the simple reason, she said – “Because I’m married”.  But because “Point of Grace” wanted to record it – they asked Cindy to rewrite the first two lines so it could be universal and not just for the married lady.

I love how Cindy writes.  She really seems to get it – the good, the bad and the ugly all mixed up together in wonderful and poignant lyrics that transcend gender, era and circumstance.  I have posted her music videos before to showcase not only her songwriting ability – but also her great and versatile singing voice.  She is also an accomplished pianist and often during videos she is playing keyboards.

This song is about making every moment count.  And as Father’s Day approaches – and we remember our Dads and our husbands  – I want to challenge you to make every moment count with the “Dads” in your life – Hey – TURN UP THE MUSIC!!!

God Bless!

Wake up to the sunlight
With your windows open
Don’t hold in your anger or leave things unspoken
Wear your red dress
Use your good dishes
Make a big mess and make lots of wishes
Have what you want
But want what you have
And don’t spend your life lookin’ back[Chorus]
Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances
Let it all out
You won’t regret it
Lookin’ back from where you have been
Cause it’s not who you knew
And it’s not what you did
It’s how you liveSo go to the ballgames
And go to the ballet
And go see your folks more than just on the holidays
Kiss all your children
Dance with your wife
Tell your husband you love him every night
Don’t run from the truth
Cause you can’t get away
Just face it and you’ll be okay[Chorus]

Oh wherever you are and wherever you’ve been
Now is the time to begin

So give to the needy
And pray for the grieving
E’en when you don’t think that you can
Cause all that you do is bound to come back to you
So think of your fellow-man
Make peace with God and make peace with yourself
Cause in the end there’s nobody else

[Chorus]

Cause it’s not who you knew
And it’s not what you did
It’s how you live

Where There Is Faith

I came across this song yesterday when looking through some old “4Him” songs on youtube.  Someone put together a beautiful slide show with this song and I wanted to share it with you.  This song has always moved me – the lyrics are amazing – and I find myself inspired by them.  It is amazing the love of our Lord Jesus – and the faith that it instills in me.

On an interesting side-note:  I learned yesterday that a friend and former co-worker from Renton Christian School, Melodee St. Clair – lost her 24-year-old son a few days ago.  Her daughter, Chelsea is also a former student of mine years ago when she was in junior high.  I had already chosen this song and written a few notes about it.  Even more I am convinced that this song is one of those ‘perfect timing’ moments that is more than coincidence.

There are times in our lives where having simple faith is hard.  It writes well and sounds good – but if we’re honest – faith is sometimes just – faith.  You can’t see it – or touch it – and sometimes you can’t even feel it.  It just simply – is.  The longer I live and see God’s hand on my life and in my shortcomings and circumstances – I am more convinced than ever that this simple faith – is enough.  It is our simple trust and dependence on God – that makes Him smile.  And I know that it is He who sustains me – watches over me and love me unconditionally.  “It is a peace like a child sleeping…”  and much, much more.

I pray you will enjoy the following video as much as I did – and that it will build up  your faith today.

And for Melodee St. Clair, Chelsea and the rest of your family – this is for you.

God Bless

Chocolat

Cover of Chocolat (Miramax Collector's Series)

I love the movie “Chocolat” – if you have never seen it – I would encourage you to do so.  It is charming as well as has a universal appeal.  We just finished watching it again and LOVE the characters in this movie and wonderful story it tells.  “Chocolat”  started as a best-selling book by Joanne Harris – then became a stage play and then a movie.  It is very visual and has extraordinary characters that are colorful and full of life.

For me – I would have to say that I love a story that has many different layers to it – touching something deep inside.  The lead character, Vianne (played by the great Juliette Binoche)  is a woman who goes from place to place and tries to make a difference – setting up a chocolate shop in the center of town.  She is seen as a radical because she goes against normal small town traditions.  She believes that life is a celebration and she embraces every moment to do so – from brightening up lives that are broken and lost – to throwing a birthday party for the elderly woman who is her landlord – but also her friend, played by the incredible Judy Dench.  But even though she is  infectious and kind – she is also seen as a threat and outsider. The mayor of the town tries to run her out – but in the end, Vianne and her daughter decide to stay.  She befriends some people from the riverboats or ‘pirates’ as her daughter calls them – and the leader is brilliantly played by Johnny Depp.  (Johnny also writes some of his own music which he plays on the guitar and it is used in the soundtrack).  The young minister of the small French town is torn – but wants to do the right thing for everyone – I believe his quote at the end of the movie is the best one – and it is seen on my video clip below.  Follow the link on the video that says “Watch this on youtube” and you will be able to see the video to get a taste of the movie.

It is amazing how one life can affect so many – and change a whole town. I want to be a life that is like that – don’t you?

Enjoy, and have some chocolate 🙂

Out Here On My Own

This was sung last night on American Idol by fifteen year old, Thia Megia.  I had forgotten about this song – it was from the movie “Fame” and sung by the great Irene Cara.  This is why I love things like American Idol – not only do we get to see up and coming new artists – but are also reminded of great songs in the process – and for me as a music teacher – it’s VERY VALUABLE!  I was in luck too – this great song is available in sheet music – Yay!  You bet I’m going to be having a few students singing it this week!  Hope you enjoy it – it’s one of the very best!

Please click on the video and then follow the link to ‘watch on youtube’.

Sometimes I wonder where I’ve been
Who I am
Do I fit in.
Make believin’ is hard alone,
Out here on my own

We’re always provin’ who we are
Always reachin’ for the risin’ star
To guide me far
And shine me home
Out here on my own

When I’m down and feelin’ blue
I close my eyes so I can be with you
Oh, baby, be strong for me
Baby, belong to me
Help me through
Help me need you

Until the morning sun appears
Making light of all my fears
I dry the tears
I’ve never shown
Out here on my own

When I’m down and feelin’ blue
I close my eyes so I can be with you
Oh, baby, be strong for me
Baby, belong to me
Help me through
Help me need you

Sometimes I wonder where I’ve been
Who I am
Do I fit in
I may not win
But I can’t be thrown
Out here on my own
On my own

Seasons Of Love

Cover of A Season of Love (Picture Psalms)

God created love. Love is a divine attribute, or characteristic, of God. The essence of God’s nature, and of a godly nature, is love. Love is more than a feeling. The love of God is a way of being.        1 John 4:7

I’m loving this season that I am in.

Greg and I are building relationships with people in our small church and our small group  in particular.  How wonderful it is to discover what happens when people find themselves colliding on a  journey – and you link arms and say, “Let’s do life together”  It is what the church is all about.  People.  Relationships.  Love.  And so we have in fact ‘linked arms’ and meet together to discuss our pastor’s messages from the Sunday morning before.  It is a refreshing and sweet time.  A season of love.

I am also discovering new blogging buddies and finding words of encouragement and camaraderie from people who have been through similar situations along this journey that I am on – and it’s a wonderful ‘God thing’ that they have been placed in my path.  Their transparency and honest approach to past failure and situations in the church – puts me to shame – as I feel I have had to be careful what I say and what I reveal, even though I too have tried to express my heart clearly and without apology.  These individuals have been a daily encouragement to me and through this wonderful gift of writing – we are discovering that we are not alone – and that God has wonderfully brought us together to share, relate and validate.  It is a season of love.

And then there are the things that are not so well – a family situation that can have no happy ending.  But again – it is an opportunity to see just how God is going to work on our behalf – working behind the scenes to bring about restoration, reconciliation and forgiveness.  He is big on all three of these – and it is exciting to know that He will always be a God that draws us to His very heart – a heart of grace and mercy.  He is always interested in our heart when we deal with difficult situations – and so even in difficult situations – we attempt to keep things right in our own hearts – and not allow bitterness or pride to hinder us from seeing the truth – and we pray that for others as well.  It is an opportunity for God to truly speak and an opportunity to build character and integrity.  It is a remarkable season of love.

I am praying for each one of my readers today – that you will allow whatever situation you find yourself in right now – to be an opportunity for that ‘season of love’ in your own life.  May the love of Jesus be your focal point as you look out on the things that are happening all around you.  And as you focus on that love – I pray something will happen in your own heart and life – a change from within.  May it give you clear perspective as you love others in your world that desperately need it today.

Below is the song from the musical “Rent” – great song about love.  This link will take you to another screen.  Click on ‘view on youtube’ to see and hear the song.  It’s a great one!

Enjoy and God Bless
