Musings From A Musical Mind

The Other Side Of Me

I ran across this song yesterday while listening to my iHeart radio in the car. The year is 1973. The singer/songwriter is Neil Sedaka. Enjoy!

God Bless

Times Of Your Life

I heard this great song today while I was getting ready for my day.  I always have iHeart Radio on in my bathroom while getting dressed and going through my routine in the morning.  When older songs come on this custom made station (Okay – I’ll admit it – I love Barry Manilow and have a custom station with all his hits and those artists around that time period – the wonderful 70’s!) it is always a pleasure to hear my old favorites.

But today – this was different.  My custom station had never before played this great Paul Anka song recorded back in 1975.  It brought much nostalgia to mind – and listening to the lyrics was a treat!  Those of you who remember this song and say to yourself, “where did this come from?” will remember that it was an old kodak film commercial back in the 1977.

Enjoy both Paul Anka’s version – or the commercial version – and remember the times of your life.

God Bless

Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher

I’ve heard many versions of this next song while growing up. I know it’s a tune from the sixties, sung by Jackie Wilson and later recorded by Rita Coolidge in the 70’s. But I forgotten about this great version by Michael McDonald. This came on iHeart Radio this morning and immediately I felt a smile come across my face and I found myself dancing and singing along! The happiness is the beat and lyrics are contagious!  When you first hear Michael’s rich throaty vocals – he is easily recognizable as the “voice” of the Doobie Brothers in the 70’s.  Great voice – great memories – fun song!  What song gives you a feeling of dance and makes you want to sing along?

Here’s to putting a dance in your step and a smile on your face today  🙂

Enjoy and God Bless

Guest Feature on “The Art Of Eloquence” Blog

I have the privilege today of being featured on my good friend and blogging buddy, JoJo on her  blog called: The Art Of Eloquence.  I have known JoJo for almost 3 years online, followed her facebook page and blog and found her to not only be an inspiring and trained communicator – but also a special friend as well.  Check out her blog – you will be blessed!  She asked me a few weeks ago if she could feature me and I was honored to be a part of her blog – you will find the interview here.

Most of you know that I love 70’s music – so here’s a blast from the past from the group “Argent”.  The year it was released – 1972.  I was 11 years old.  Heard this for the first time in many years on the program “Men of a Certain Age” the other night and just had to find it and play it for you.  Brings back a lot of memories for me.  Hope you enjoy!

God Bless

And if it’s bad

Don’t let it get you down, you can take it

And if it hurts

Don’t let them see you cry, you can take it

Hold your head up, hold your head up

Hold your head up, hold your head high

And if they stare

Just let them burn their eyes on you moving

And if they shout

Don’t let them change a thing what you’re doing

Hold your head up, hold your head up

Hold your head up, hold your head high

Long Train Running (Without Love)

I heard this on my car radio yesterday.  I have it tuned to one of a couple of stations devoted to the “oldies” or “hits of all time” – I can’t remember which.  Anyway, this song came on and I remember loving it – and all the Doobie Brothers songs of the 70’s.  You will be seeing a lot more of these as I hear them.  These are the sounds of my youth – and in some ways I do miss these groups – even though I do like a lot of the music of today.  But there in nothing like what reminds me of “back in the day”.   With this song I’m driving down the road and I’m about 16.  Sweet memories.

Enjoy and God Bless

Down around the corner, half a mile from here
See those long trains running, and you watch them disappear
Without love, where would you be now
Without love

You know I saw Miss Lucy down along the tracks
She lost her home and her family and she won’t be coming back
Without love, where would you be right now
Without love

Well there’s the Illinois Central
And the Southern Central freight
You got to keep on pushing mama
I know they’re running late
Without love, where would you be now na na now
Without love

Well there’s the Illinois Central
And the Southern Central freight
You got to keep on pushing mama
You know they’re running late
Without love, where would you be now
Without love

Well distance keep on turning
and the wheels go round and round
and the steel reels are cooling hard
and the mountain ain’t going down
Without love, where would you be right now
Where would you be now

Mmm..ooh you got to get the baby thing
I want to move it down
I want to move it down
Baby baby baby babe oh won’t you move it down
There’s a big train running
With the train I’m moving on
I got to keep on moving, keep on moving

Sister Moonshine

Ahh – memories from a great band “Supertramp” – enjoy a trip down my memory lane with this recording of “Sister Moonshine”.  You have to love the 70’s music – THE BEST!!

Ooo-when I was a small boy,
Well, I could see the magic in a day,
But, now I’m just a poor boy,
Well, maybe it’s the price you have to pay,
If you lock your dreams away
If no-one wants to listen.

What’s the story,
I wish I’d been a minstrel,
Just think of all the maidens I could call,
Oh-I wish I’d been a gypsy,
Then maybe I could read the crystal ball,
‘Cause surrounded by these walls,
Just makes me feel uneasy.

I said hey, Sister Moonshine
Won’t you send me a little sun
I said hey, Sister moonshine
Who’s a stranger to everyone.

Make us all cry
Make us all try
Give us a secret, show us the light,
Well, strike up the music, light up the sky.

Mmm-If I was a lion,
Well, I could be the king off all the plains,
Mmm-If is was an eagle,
Well, maybe I could fly above the rains,
Oh, fly above the pain
But, I know I’m only foolin’

I said hey, Sister Moonshine,
Won’t you send me a little sun,
I said hey, Sister Moonshine,
Who’s a stranger to everyone.

Make us all cry,
Make us all cry,
I said hey, Sister Moonshine
I said hey, Sister Moonshine,
I said hey, said hey
I said hey, I said hey Sister Moonshine.

Dream On

One of the tunes I grew up on – Enjoy!

Everytime that I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face gettin clearer
The past is gone
It went by like dust to dawn
Isnt that the way
Everybodys got their dues in life to pay

I know what nobody knows
Where it comes and where it goes
I know its everybodys sin
You got to lose to know how to win

Half my life is in books written pages
Live and learn from fools and from sages
You know its true
All the things come back to you

Sing with me, sing for the years
Sing for the laughter, sing for the tears
Sing with me, if its just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good lord will take you away

Dream on, dream on
Dream yourself a dream come true
Dream on, dream on
Dream until your dream come true
Dream on, dream on, dream on…

Sing with me, sing for the years
Sing for the laughter and sing for the tears
Sing with me, if its just for today
Maybe tomorrow the good lord will take you away
