Musings From A Musical Mind

Posts tagged ‘American Idol’

Here is my favorite so far in the American Idol competition this season – she is the “dark horse” and I believe has a real shot at winning it all!  Take a listen to Candace Glover singing “LoveSong” by The Cure.

She’s Leaving Home

There have been some great Beatles songs on American Idol this past week.  This is one of my favorites – about a runaway that was in a newspaper article around 1967.

Enjoy and God Bless

Wednesday morning at five o’clock as the day begins
Silently closing her bedroom door
Leaving the note that she hoped would say more
She goes down the stairs to the kitchen clutching her handkerchief
Quietly turning the backdoor key
Stepping outside she is free.

She (We gave her most of our lives)
is leaving (Sacrificed most of our lives)
home (We gave her everything money could buy)
She’s leaving home after living alone
For so many years.

Father snores as his wife gets into her dressing gown
Picks up the letter that’s lying there
Standing alone at the top of the stairs
She breaks down and cries to her husband Daddy our baby’s gone
Why would she treat us so thoughtlessly
How could she do this to me.

She (We never thought of ourselves)
is leaving (Never a thought for ourselves)
home (We struggled hard all our lives to get by)
She’s leaving home after living alone
For so many years.

Friday morning at nine o’clock she is far away
Waiting to keep the appointment she made
Meeting a man from the motor trade.

She (What did we do that was wrong)
is having (We didn’t know it was wrong)
fun (Fun is the one thing that money can’t buy)
Something inside that was always denied
For so many years.
She’s leaving home. Bye, bye

Come Together

My favorite from last night – Candice Glover! You go girl!

Sky Blue Diamond

Charlie Askew performed this original song last night on American Idol in hopes of being on the summer tour.  I was sorry to see him voted off a few weeks ago as he has real talent and is very unique.  What a pure tone to his voice!  I wish you all the luck in the world, Charlie – and with the audience and judges giving you a standing ovation after your performance – I have no doubt that you will be remembered.

If you missed it – here it is – enjoy!

God Bless

I Believe I Can Fly

Best performance of the night – and what a TALENT!! Thanks, Curtis – you made me actually love this song again. Here it is if you happened to miss it last night.

Enjoy and God Bless

Circle Of Life

Zoanette.  The most unusual and unique artist that has auditioned for American Idol – in a long while. I love the fact that she’s originally from Liberia.  I love that she is not afraid.  I love that she’s outrageous and passionate.   She will be remembered – no matter how far she gets in this competition.   The audience and judges LOVE her.  And so do I.  And can you really lose singing an Elton John classic?  I think not.  You go girl!

Rocket Man

It should be no surprise that I have chosen a song by Elton John and from the 70’s as my favorite pick from American Idol the other night, sung by Charlie.

It’s not so much Charlie, as the song.  His vocal performance was by no means the best one of the evening – but he is a great performer!  And that song!  Anything from the 70’s brings back a wonderful time of innocence for me.  And they just don’t write songs the same way anymore.  There was something simple and magical about those tunes – whether we’re talking about Elton or Simon and Garfunkel.  As soon as the first notes play from one of those classics – I am immediately transported back to my teenage years.

This last week a young voice student told me that she liked “Sunshine on my Shoulders” from John Denver.  My heart soared!  Another convert to 70’s classics!  Whether you are referring to Joni Mitchell, Billy Joel or The Carpenters – there is no better or heart-felt era of music.

So here is Charlie’s version of that great 70’s song.  Thanks Elton for the memories.

God Bless
