Just Because You Are Special

Yesterday and today I have had some fun setting up some widgets for my blog site.  It’s been frustrating, but also really fun.  Frustrating in that – I was not able to get everyone on “Blogs I follow” because it seems not everyone is compatible with this widget – or does not have a gravatar picture, or both – and FUN because now that I am done I can see everyone’s SMILING face looking at me.  All the people who have encouraged and contributed to my writing and being.  Their fresh faces gazing approvingly on my site  – and I am satisfied.

No one is an island, not even those of us writers who prefer to live somewhat secluded and just – write.  Or in my case – express.  Either way it is not necessary to get a pat on the back or a smile of encouragement from others, but it is still appreciated.  And I try to make a conscious effort to do the same to all of you.  I sometimes forget what that comments of love mean to me.   It is a wonderful thing to connect with others who feel the same and need someone else to say something they have been thinking and never written down.  This has happened to me as I’ve read all your blog articles out there.  Sometimes it’s like, “Wow – I can’t believe they said that!”  And I find myself nodding and smiling.

Please don’t feel left out – if you are a reader and contributor and do not see your smiling picture on the right side of this page – please make me aware of it – it is not in the slightest bit intentional!  I want to connect you with my readers and have others gain encouragement from the very thing you are writing about.  You just never know who you are going to meet and come across because of this unique blogging community.

And if you see yourself there – just know this:  we may not talk every day, or leave comments all the time, but you have been a part of my journey the last 4 plus years and I appreciate you!

Let’s encourage one another!

To Journal Or Not To Journal

Private journal, Diary of Henriette Dessaulles...

Private journal, Diary of Henriette Dessaulles, 1874, Ink on paper, 21 x 14 cm Français : Journal personnel, Journal d'Henriette Dessaulles, 1874, Encre sur papier, 21 x 14 cm (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I have kept a journal off and on since I was a teenager.  I would write in it at first to put my feelings, thoughts and dreams down on paper – and then to look back at one month increments and when I had reached a year or more, then I would look back by year too.  It made me feel like I could go back to a certain situation in time and then see how I reacted and came through it.  I found it therapeutic.

I wasn’t as loyal through my early adult life with this – it was like my creative juices were not needed, or perhaps didn’t feel a need for an outlet until I became pregnant with Ashlee in 1986.  I kept a journal then to help me with diet and show progress with the pregnancy – to register names we likes and used it as a way to track gifts given to me at baby showers.  I kept this journal until she was several months old – then got too busy to be bothered.

I started again when I was pregnant with Shawn – though not as seriously.  Every few months and then years I would post an entry while the kids were growing up.  It was so great to look back at my last entry and see the progress of our family – the dream to own our own home before we did – and the dream to go on a cruise (which we did) for our 20th anniversary.

When I became better online than keeping a hard copy journal – I began using “Word” on my computer to keep track of events, feelings, dreams and other things going on in our lives.  While praying for the right guy for Ashlee I began a journey with my walks and prayer life – and typed away on my online journal – keeping many things personal to me there about each guy who came into our family, while dating our daughter.

When Drew entered our lives, I was in full swing so I was able to journal about his arrival on the scene and everything since we had first met him.  I even wrote a letter to be given to my future son-in-law someday – back before I was doing my journal on the computer – I printed it out and kept it in an envelope in my office drawer for about 2 years.

Last night I took a look at the journal saved on my computer that had its last entry over a year ago.  I have kept it for 5 years.  I look back to see where I’ve come from – what was going on with me and the family back then – what hopes, dreams and situations were going on at the time and see where I am today.  And while I still believe it is great to take a peak back where we’ve come from – I also know we can’t stay and dwell there – but must keep looking forward.  I was reminded of this last night when reading about a painful situation and  I did not like the way it made me feel.  The problem with writing about pain, hurt and sadness – is that it is always there in black and white and there is something permanent about it.

I blog because it is my way of expressing myself through writing.  I blog because it is interactive with others who are writers like me – and find the daily encouragement and comments from others to be therapeutic far beyond private ‘journalling’ used to be.

So this has been my journey with keeping a journal – and I prefer to use those thoughts and feelings to help and encourage others just like me – in a blog.  This is my way to turn things around and keep my focus “outward” and “positive” – constantly moving and becoming…instead of looking back and being “inward” and becoming “negative”.

What is your experience with keeping a journal?  Do you still keep one?  Have you found that your blog site takes the place of keeping a personal one?

God Bless

Blog Sharing Friday

Today I have three more AWESOME blogging buddies to share with you.

1. Duane Scott of Duane Scott-Scribing The Journey is someone I met on google+ and twitter. He’s a really gifted writer and someone who has become a friend as well. You will love the way he describes everyday things in life – along his own personal journey with his “southern gal” and his cute little puppy, Mr. Watson.  Duane is young enough to be my son – but feels in every way like a contemporary and a real friend.  It just goes to show that age really doesn’t matter – it is the connection of the heart that bonds people in friendship – and there are many “kindred spirits” out there – if we take the time to discover them. Duane is one of those.

2. Keri Welch of Pop Parables is someone I also met online through twitter.  She had just written a blog about Lady Gaga and I found it very interesting and have been a regular reader since then.  She also lives here in the Great Northwest – not far from where I live, and a trip is being planned where all of us who live here can all get together in October.  We are the #WestCoastNinjas 🙂  Keri is someone of deep faith and it pours out through her writings.  Always well read and prepared for any subject, she is engaged and careful to always return discussion questions on each of her articles.  She has a great sense of humor and it flows easily in her comments to others.  Keri is someone I am proud to call friend and can’t wait to meet in person 🙂

3. Alise Wright of Alise…Write! is another gifted writer that I know through twitter and other people who have featured her writings on their blog sites.  Always pleasant and full of fun – Alise writes of her daily journey in a humorous way, both charming and engaging.  Alise is also a musician, so we have that in common 🙂  I am absolutely BUMMED that I cannot add her RSS Live Feed to the right side of my page – and have had a couple of discussions with her on this very subject!  We’ve both agreed that my blog must not like her website – or her website must not like wordpress or some such nonsense – but no matter – I LIKE HER – so that’s all that matters!  I follow her on facebook and twitter so I will know when she has another great article to read – along with Duane and Keri – and they all have pages for their blog sites – look them up!

I hope that you will check out these three blog sites and follow them – they will BLESS YOU!

For more awesome blogs that I have featured in past weeks – please check out the attached articles below.

Have an awesome Friday!  God Bless

Blog Sharing Friday

This week I want to share 3 more favorite blog sites.  These people have invested in me and cared about my daily “journal” of thoughts and have contributed and been a part of my daily world.  I have enjoyed reading about their struggles, trial, joys and resolutions – along with their daily journey with a growing relationship with Jesus.

1) K.C. Procter of  Some Wise Guy.  I have never met K.C. in person – in fact I only know him because of my friend David Miles’ blog – and saw him commenting and decided to check out his blog site.  K.C. got to know me and asked me to be a part of a series he had in May, called WiseGals.  It was a fun to be guest and it was a great learning experience for me as well.  K.C. is someone who loves his family – is passionate about God and helping people.  I love his humor and fresh approach to every day struggles. Lately he’s been incorporating video blogs of himself talking – bringing a more personal connection to his readers.  He’s very likable and I hope you will check out his blog site.

2) Tony Alicea at  Expect The Exceptional.  I have never met Tony in person either.  But I’ve come to really love his heart and passion for writing, others and especially his relationship with Jesus.  He  ALWAYS has time to others – and many people comment and have been following his blog.  This is no accident – as he connects well with everyone has always has a positive comment to make.  Tony is newly engaged and excited about his upcoming marriage – and we’re all so happy for him.  Check out his blog – you will be a loyal reader.

3) Jason Stasyszen at  Connecting To Impact.  Jason is Lead Pastor at Breakthrough Church in Juneau, Alaska. I understand Jason has also completed 4 worship albums – so he’s a Pastor with a musical side too 🙂  I’ve never met Jason in person – but he connects well with all of us online – and is a real online pastor to all of us in the blogging world with his wonderful writings and poetry.  Jason had me do a guest spot for him a few months ago while he and his family were on a vacation in Hawaii.  It was my pleasure to fill in for his awesome blog.  You will love Jason and find that he ALWAYS has time for everyone who visits his blog – and I have found Jason to be a daily presence on my blog site as well.

I hope you will also visit my other articles listed below to find out what other blogging friends I have found – and why they would be worth your time to check out!

God Bless!

Friends

As part of my Friday tradition over the last month or so – I have 3 more fantastic people to share with you – I hope you will take a look at their blog sites – and you will be daily inspired as I am.  Here they are in no particular order:

1) Moe Vivas – the owner and author of  Beta Christian  I have only known Moe a short time via twitter and our blog sites – I have never met him in person – I live on the West Coast and he is from New York – but I have enjoyed his wit and humor – and his very deep and spiritual blog articles.  He is a daily presence in the blogging world and on my blog and social media – and I’ve come to enjoy talking with him and sensing his deep commitment to Christ and to other believers.  Check out his series on “American Idols” and “The Usual Suspects” – on various Bible Characters.

2) Michael Perkins – the owner and author of  Untitled by Michael Perkins.  I have known Michael the same amount of time – through twitter and his blog site.  He is the one who designed my blog Logo at the top of this page – and has a business doing web design called  Epic Elephant Designs.  Michael is a pastor and friend to many and I have been inspired by his giving nature – the mark of a true Christ follower.  He is a daily presence in the blogging world and here on my site as well as in all social media.  I know you will be inspired and blessed by reading his articles.

3)  Dustin Valencia – owner and author of  the Abraham Chronicles.  Dustin and I have never met in person either – he is someone who I found through someone elses blog site – but once I landed there – I never left and daily read his articles which are both humorous and inspiring with relevant content.  Dustin is also a daily presence in the blogging community and my blog site as well as other social media.  You will enjoy his humor and down-to-earth way of expressing himself and relating to the world around him – as well as deeply caring for others in his world.

I have many more blogging buddies to share – and will try to share 3 each Friday.  I know you will be blessed by the 3 I mentioned above.

Have a wonderful weekend and God Bless!

Last week I featured three of my blogging buddies, Deanna who now has a couple of new websites – this one is “Your Pastor’s Wife” – JoJo at “The Art of Eloquence” and Ray at “Fallen Pastor”.  Today I am pretending that it’s Friday and featuring some more of my wonderful talented blogging buddies.

1. The Reluctant Wham is a blog site by my online buddy, Carla Ives – who is committed to sharing her wealth of information for the “work at home mom”. Her daily inspiration and encouragement is a must for any “reluctant” stay at home mom who has found herself in the position of making money for her family. I love Carla’s information – but mostly her keen sense of humor and love for people who motivate her to give of herself. I love all of her articles – but if I had to choose one to feature it would be this one: My Quilt Be sure and check out her site for many ideas about making money while staying at home.

2. 24/7 Life – A Life Well Lived is a blog site by my real life friend David Miles. David and my husband were on staff together for about 4 years at New Life Church in Renton, Washington about 3 years ago. I have always loved David and his wife, Monika. They have a beautiful baby girl now – and it’s fun to see him playing the “proud papa” and displaying his many pictures of his baby girl 🙂  David is now on staff at Maple Valley Presbyterian and works with people of all ages – and I’m sure they love him!  He is fully engaged when he has a conversation with you – in person or online.  He and I have been square dancing corner partners (don’t ask) and then friends at church and blogging buddies for about 3 years now.  He always encourages me in my writing – and has even been so kind as to feature me as a guest blogger a few months ago.  Probably my favorite article of his was the one he just wrote a few days ago: Facing A Potential “Most Embarrassing Moment” You will love it – and him. Check him out!

3.Pastor Mike Says Is a blog site from my real life friend Mike Sanderson. We met through our blogs and facebook about 3 years ago or so. Then Greg and I planned a trip to Las Vegas where Mike and his wife, Carmen live. Naturally we wanted to meet them to put a face with a name – and what a fun weekend we had! Mike even took us to the Grand Canyon – what a long day in the car that was! I don’t think any of us ever properly recovered from that trip! Mike is a pastor and has a shepherd’s heart for people. His blog site reflects that. I even helped design it for him 🙂 My favorite article of his is: You Are Unique, You Are Amazing I trust that you will be blessed to hear his words of encouragement.

Check them out – you will be blessed today!

God Bless

Two Years? Let’s Celebrate!

Two years ago this month was my first blog article – and the beginning of a wonderful relationship and growing passion for writing.

In that amount of time I have come to appreciate those that have been in this crazy little corner of the world with me – our blog sites – and have made many new friends.  It’s sobering to note that had I not ventured out – taken a risk to open up and be truly authentic (at least as authentic as I feel appropriate) – I would not have met and developed those relationships – found a mutual love with these people, help and encouragement through the good, the bad – and the ugly.  Most of these people whom I speak of can be found on my blogroll down below.  Some I knew before – most I did not – and some I reconnected with because of blogging.

Those of you that are daily in my daily blogging life – contributing to a laugh, or a sigh – bringing clarity and humor to this crazy world – thank you. Let’s never be too busy to write a word of encouragement to each other – the writer knows how important that is – like no other.

I’ve learned a great many things over the last two years – have been daily inspired and encouraged by things I’ve read by all of you – and have found many topics to reflect on and write about myself.  Life is full of opportunities – if we just open up our eyes!  I look forward to many more anniversaries – writing and reflecting about my journey!

Thank you – to all of my readers! ♥  And if you’re a daily reader but never leave a comment – I want to encourage you – let me know that you’re reading and leave me a comment.  Your word may be just what I need to hear – or what someone else needs to hear – on that very day.  Our words are powerful – don’t hold them back.

God Bless
