Colors That Soothe

Yesterday I uploaded the new software for my iMac called Mountain Lion OS X version 10.8.  I’m loving the running notifications on my desktop, voice activation for email plus the many other options.  But today in trying to figure out how to boost my font size for my browser of choice – Chrome – I really discovered something GREAT!

Google Chrome has MANY themes to play with.  LOTS AND LOTS of color and fun things!  I played with the LOUD PINK and other BOLD colors but oddly enough I have chosen a more subdued one – called “Pooh and Friends” which has lavender for my bookmarks tab and pale pink and blue for my tabs.  It’s SO PRETTY!  Take a look:

I have always loved Disney characters – and have had an Eeyore on my desktop for as long as I’ve had a computer – so this fits me perfectly 🙂

There’s something about color in our lives – especially the right colors.  People are like colors – bringing sunshine or heaviness – laughter and sparkle to an otherwise dull existence.  And sometimes we feel great when surrounded by the BRIGHT ones – a little lost and bewildered by the dull and faded – and just right with the soothing and friendly pastels of pink, lavender and blue.

Which color are you?  What do you like to surround yourself with?  What colors bring a soothing calm to your soul?

Have a great weekend –

God Bless

The Colors Of My World

A smiley with glasses.

I am yellow.

Yellow is the color of my unrealistic optimism.  I wear these to see everything sunny, warm and bright.  You are over exposed and unnatural.  You are shiny and unreal but at the same time, interesting and contagious.  I feel high.

I am blue.

Blue is the color of my moodiness.  I put these on and see you through my drama.  I see and hear distrust and disapproval.  I am aware of your mood, your detachment and abstract vagueness.  I feel sad.

I am red.

Red is the color of my anger.  I put these on and see you through my rage.  You look aggressive, harsh and removed.  Your edges are sharp and restrictive.  I feel out of control.

English: Black and white glasses.

I am gray.

Gray is the color of my complacency.  I put these on and see you as apathetic and uncaring.  You look uninteresting and dull.  I feel caught in a rut – a never-ending cycle of repetition and  monotony.  I feel hopeless.

I am black.

Black is the color of my sadness.  I put these on and see you as distant and unfeeling.  You are shadows and uncertainty.  You look scary and hostile.  I am afraid of the world.  I am undone.

I am pink.

Pink is the color of how I want my world to be.   I put these on and see you as healthy and whole.  I am also healthy and whole.  You are beautiful, created in a unique design.  I feel warm and fulfilled.  I hear joy and laughter in your voice, feel connected and safe with you.  I feel loved.

Dear Lord,

Help me to remove the colored glasses that hinder me from seeing things as they should be – and as they really are.   And wisdom to know the truth.  Amen

Which glasses do you wear most of the time?

God Bless

What’s Your Color?

My husband was the minister at a memorial service this morning – for a dear “saint” of God – who, in her own writing of her testimony – told how she had a life  of struggle and circumstance – and was NO saint.  Just a grateful recipient of God’s favor, grace and mercy.  Sound familiar?  Yes – it does for me too.

Greg then mentioned how each person on her life journey had impacted her life – and was like a “color”.  Each person we meet through life – touches us and adds “color” to our lives – and when they are gone – that “color” is gone.

I have thought about this off and on throughout the last several months – people in our lives that represent “color” to us.  Each one a different shade – giving us something we would not have without them.

As a musician I often use “color” examples to my students.  I like them to know what it means to use the “tone” in their voice to match a certain color.  Sometimes the student sings too “bright” or “yellow” and I need to use a dark color such as “deep red” or “deep purple” to get them to change the tone in their voice.  This works well with students – because everyone can understand what a color represents – and then try to mimic that sound with their singing voice.

I am “dark pink” – not bright and sunny like “yellow” – not too dark like a “deep red” or “deep purple” – I am positive – but sensitive and at times complicated.

I have some friends that are “yellow” – very up and positive ALL THE TIME.  I also have some friends that are very “deep red” or “deep purple” they are dark and mysterious, complicated and in their own right – fascinating and ever changing.  And I have friends in the middle with various shades of green and blue.

My husband is “blue” – easy going – uncomplicated – predictable and cautious.  He is simply the best and kindest of men – with a heart of gold.

My son is “dark green” – he’s a little like me – deep and sensitive – but also like his father – easy going and laid down.

My daughter is “fire engine RED”  She’s a black and white – no nonsense girl – who wears her emotions and feelings out in the open – there’s no hiding with her – she’s unpretentious and authentic – irreverent and wonderful.  You never have to wonder where you stand with Ashlee – if she doesn’t tell you – her look will knock you over.

My sweet son-in-law is “blue” like my husband – easy going, uncomplicated – with a good kind lovable heart.

What’s your color?  Is there anyone missing from your color palette today?  We all need each other – for that perfect balanced rainbow of color in our lives.

Have an awesome weekend!

God Bless
