Three Beautiful Things

“Everytime you smile at someone, it is an action of love, a gift to that person, and a truly beautiful thing…” (Photo credit: deeplifequotes)

Today has been a series of three beautiful things.

A reunion with an old friend doing what we love best – singing.

A glowing recommendation from a former colleague that turned into a new student and future friend.

A message from a former student, long ago in another life, telling me what an impact I made in his life all those years ago.

All of these are wonderful in themselves and each of them gives me many things to ponder.  But the fact that all three occurred on the same day is a beautiful gift.

Sometimes we just plod along, unaware how we affect others.  Those of us who are teachers, coaches and encourage others – take for granted what we do each day as just part of the job.  It is sometimes not until we really need to hear it – that the miracle of blessing comes.  And sometimes it does not ever come.  And that’s okay.

But today…

Today as I went about my day – these three beautiful things happened.

And I am grateful.

And very blessed.

Go out and bless someone’s life today.  Tell them what you appreciate about their life and what they mean to you.  I promise that they will be blessed by your words and  you will be their beautiful thing.

God Bless

Cow(oh boy) Boots (via Weatherstone’s Blog)

This is so HILARIOUS!!! If you’re a teacher – or a parent like I am you will be able to relate and have a good laugh! Enjoy!

Cow(oh boy) Boots Did you hear about the Texas Teacher who was helping one of her kindergarten students put on his cowboy boots? He asked for help and she could see why. Even with her pulling and him pushing, the little boots still didn’t want to go on. Finally, when the second boot was on, she had worked up a sweat. She almost cried when the little boy said, “Teacher, they’re on the wrong feet.” She looked and sure enough, they were. It wasn’t any easier pulling … Read More

Beauty And The Beast

Another great production put away and remembered by pictures – snapshots of people – frozen moments in time.

This was my favorite.  I am overwhelmed with emotions and nostalgia – being a part of this great event.  Knowing this cast was one of a kind – that these eighth graders are moving on – and it will be different next year – special in its own way – but never the same.

If you had the priviledge to see this production – you will know what I’m talking about when I say the word ‘chemistry’ with the cast – the teachers and the wonderful parents and volunteers behind the scenes – all working together to make sure it all came together and that it was AMAZING.  It was.

I am so grateful for this opportunity to be a part of something bigger than myself and feel that everyone should have a ‘moment’ like this at least once in their lifetime.  I’ve had several.  My great love for these students is why they always come back into my life – even when they go their seperate ways for a season – and it is always like a reunion when they come back to see me.  Many of them are still in my life today – even after years of being with them.  Theater students, former choir students, and my private piano and voice students.  They are all special and each one unique.

What is the secret to happiness?  Find something that you are passionate about – and do it.  Invest in others.  Love them with all of your heart.  Embrace each moment.  And watch it come back to you.  It will.  I promise ♥

God Bless

A Clear View

I just created a page on facebook for my music studio.  It has brought back many memories – especially as I have threatened to post videos of past recitals – and have indeed posted one from June, 2002 – in which I had the privilege to sing with three lovely young ladies in “Mister Sandman” – what memories of fun and laughter we had when trying to learn the hand motions for it!  I have been looking through many “past” videos – as you can imagine after 13 plus years of recitals.  It’s been fun – it has brought laughter and has caused me to reflect on the past.

Sometimes we don’t have a good “view” of the present and certainly not the future – but I can truly say that I have a clear view of the past.  Just seeing how far these students have come in those years is incredible. I’ve had the privilege to work with and coach hundreds of students over my long career – and it has truly been a joy!  Many students I have had in my home once a week for years. I have MAJOR bragging rights!!  They are all my kids.

Wouldn’t it be nice if our regular world had a video tape of past events from our life – so we could go back over it – remember the good times – see our kids when they were little and see them grow up – see things in a different light – and say, “awwww the good old days – remember that?”  A clear view. Unfortunately – life is not that clear – and we don’t always have a video camera for everything – oh maybe some of the good stuff – but usually never the bad.  Aren’t you glad?  Me too!

There is nothing in the world like the feeling that you get from making a difference in someone’s life.  And if you ever forget just how much of a personal impact you have made on this world and in your own circle of friends – just take out your own “memories” of great things from the past – just like these videos of mine – and you will have a clear view too.

God Bless
