Little Narrow Gate

This song is one you may not have heard often – or at all.  But it is one of my favorites by great gospel singer Sandi Patty.  Music and lyrics like this are nothing short of inspiring!  I trust you will find the beautiful melody and rich lyric line a little lift today – as you find your own little narrow gate.

God Bless

Chorus:
There’s a little narrow gate
At the top of a hill
And it beckons my heart to enter in
And follow where it will
Oh, where it will
And the path that leads through this gate of dreams
Takes me away

With the wind at my back
The journey before me
I set my feet on the road that leads to life
And take the hand of the one
Who’ll be my companion
For he will show me the place to begin

Repeat Chorus

All of my life I’ve been waiting
Could this be the place I can start

Repeat Chorus

Another Time Another Place

Watching this video today brings back so many memories!  This duet and song is one of my FAVORITES from back in the day – (look at Wayne Watson’s long hair!) and both of these artists are still touring, writing and singing today – 20+ years later!  Sandi Patty and Wayne Watson are the real deal and this is just one example.   Truly an underrated song with wonderful lyrics, melody and incredible voices – hope you enjoy going down memory lane today as much as I did.  Parts of this song gives me chills!

God Bless!

Free Fallin’

I love this cover! You may remember the original version written and performed Tom Petty. I actually like this song even better performed by the very talented John Mayer.

I love John Mayer songs – but the stand out for me is when he played at Michael Jackson’s funeral.

I hope these songs will make you smile tonight as you remember.  Enjoy!

Somewhere Only We Know

This week on “The Voice” Michelle Chamuel sang one of my favorites, “Somewhere Only We Know”. I love how passionate she is when she sings. I believe her. That is important when being a vocal artist – that you are believable.

So many times singers have a great vocal, but you don’t get an emotion reaction to them. When someone really embraces the lyrics of the song, finds a place deep down or an emotion to draw from – the result is pure magic!

Enjoy this video from Michelle and God Bless!

I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever)

Yesterday I watched a live performance (I had recorded) of Josh Groban singing at the Lincoln Center in New York.  I love Josh and his music!  Who doesn’t?  And he honestly seems like someone all of us would be comfortable having as a friend.  When he speaks he seems unaffected by his fame and significance.  It is as though he is just the boy next door and he happens to have an incredible voice.

I wish talent like that came to everyone just because they wish it – however, it takes a lot of hard work and sacrifice to have a career like the one Josh has had.  And he would say, many things have had to take a back seat.  I also know that he has had to have incredible drive and determination besides great vocal talent.

As I listened to many of his old and new songs and his easy interaction with the audience – it wasn’t until this last song that I felt compelled to look it up to see if I could purchase the sheet music!  It was written and originally sung by the great Stevie Wonder.  I was literally transfixed as I listened.  I looked it up and found many covers, done by Michael McDonald, George Michael and Art Garfunkel.  And even though all these are wonderful – Josh brings something really special to these lyrics and melody.  I hope you will agree.

This is for all of you who have ever been in love.

Enjoy and God Bless

“I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever)”

Shattered dreams, worthless years,
Here am I encased inside a hollow shell,
Life began, then was done,
Now I stare into a cold and empty well
The many sounds that meet our ears
the sights our eyes behold,
Will open up our merging hearts,
And feed our empty soulsI believe when I fall in love with you it will be forever,
I believe when I fall in love this time it will be forever

Without despair we will share,
And the joys of caring will not be replaced,
What has been must never end
And with the strength we have won’t be erased
When the truths of love are planted firm,
They won’t be hard to find,
And the words of love I speak to you
will echo in your mind

I believe when I fall in love with you it will be forever,
I believe when I fall in love this time it will be forever

I believe when I fall in love with you it will be forever,
I believe when I fall in love with you it will be forever

I’m so glad that I found someone to believe in again,
I’m so glad that I found someone to believe in again

God surely answered my prayer,
God surely answered by prayer,
You know God surely answered my prayer,
You know God surely answered my prayer,
God always will answer your prayers,
Believe in one who will answer my prayer,
Thank you God

Come on, let’s fall in love,
You’re the woman I’ve been waiting for,
Come on, let’s fall in love,
You’re the girl that I really adore,
Come on, let’s fall in love…[etc]

Day 11 – Oh Holy Night by Wayne Watson

This is one of my favorite Christmas songs and this version by Wayne Watson is the most beautiful I’ve ever heard. That last note of his is AMAZING. I could not find this version on youtube last year so I made my own music video.

I hope you enjoy it!

My Hiding Place…

hiding

The following is an article I posted 2 years ago this monthI was still trying to make sense out of a situation that still makes no sense 2 years later – and at that time I was still thinking that it would.  Instead – 2 years later I now know that time isn’t always an accurate measurement of understanding – nor is it a rite of passage.  It is simply a journey we all must take – and what we do with the lessons along the way determines our joy or sorrow for the future.  If you are like me and have had setbacks in your life – or things happen that you did not fully understand – have ever questioned God or felt like you didn’t deserve things that transpired at the hand of another – then you will know what I felt like when I wrote this article.  My prayer is that it will bless and encourage your heart today.
Have you ever felt like you needed a “Hiding Place”?
What event in your past changed the way you look at life now?
 Habakkuk 3:19
The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights. For the director of music. On my stringed instruments.”

When I read the above scripture – I was moved.  I am a musician and have the heart and soul of an artist.  I am also told I am a “sanguine” deep and emotional – and while I can be the life of the party, I prefer being alone or being with a close friend – am very sentimental and easily wounded and sensitive.   I have always understood that I view the world a little differently than others do.  I am an “audio” learner – and even more – my friend John recently corrected me – I am a “kinesthetic” learner – which means I not only hear the music – but I get inside of it and breathe it in – and wrap it around me like a blanket and it becomes a part of me.
So the psalms and other scriptures about music and musicians really speak to me.  David was also a musician and I love the poetic way in which he writes – and many of the psalms were set to music back then – and even today we are still doing this.  There is something about the “artist” who is able to put the right spin on words to express and communicate a thought and paint a beautiful picture.  David really felt what he wrote and expressed – was deeply hurt, moved and lived life to the fullest.  I can appreciate his take on his journey through good and bad times – how he cried out to God and how sometimes he was just lost and didn’t know if God really heard – or cared.  I believe that even though he sometimes didn’t understand – he had a habit of going to God and pouring his heart out.  He knew where his safe “hiding place” was – away from the world of betrayal and hurt – away from his enemies who tried to destroy him – away from the prying eyes of those who would later come to judge him for his sin.
I have found a safe place in God’s presence – it is a place where I go to regain my sanity amidst a world gone mad – friends who are not friends anymore – and those who would judge my heart without knowing my heart.  And I find new purpose and resolve after being in this “hiding place” of mine.  And I find that I can make it after all.
Below is a beautiful music video based on a favorite Psalm of mine.  Enjoy – and allow God’s sweet spirit to penetrate into your secret “hiding place”  Allow Him to be that for you today.  He is trustworthy and dependable.  He will keep you safe.
God Bless
